Waje boycotts election, says harassment too much

Singer Waje has boycotted the governorship and state assembly elections, alleging harassment from state-sponsored thugs.

In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, she said, “This is just bulls**t! INEC I’m so ashamed of you people. I get to my polling unit and I find out that they’ve moved us from a very safe place where we have been voting before to a rural area. That’s fine. We get there and everything was going peacefully and the next thing we saw was that thugs started hanging around there. If you bring out your phone to even make a call they start beating you up.”

Waje said the thugs slapped her friend’s husband because he brought out his phone.

She said she was infuriated when she saw a thug assaulting a man and telling him to go to Anambra to vote because he is an igbo man.

The ‘Best Thing’ singer said in the video she posted that she was going home and that she was not a “superhero”.

“No words but I’m sha going home @psykik131 I’m so sorry,” she said.
