VGC school supervisor denies defiling two-year-old pupil

Court

A 47-year-old school supervisor, Adegboyega Adenekan, has denied defiling a two-year-old pupil of Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City, Lagos.

Mr Adenekan opened his defence on Tuesday at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

The supervisor was led in evidence by his counsel, Olatunde Adejuyigbe.

Adenekan said he had an unstained 23 years’ reputation in educating children, adding that he had never been accused of child defilement.

“I have put in my best in touching the lives of children in every school that I have taught.

“I am bright and intelligent; it is only a person with a devilish mind that will do that to a two-year-old. Children are to be protected,” he told the court.

He also said he had been married for 18 years and was blessed with two children who are now teenagers.

Adenekan said the child’s mother first accused him of the offence on November 11, 2016 via phone conversation.

Adenekan told the court that the child’s father called him the following day on phone and made similar accusation.

He accused the child’s parents of manipulating the results of the lie detector test which he allegedly failed.

Justice Sybil Nwaka revoked his bail for a day to ensure his attendance for cross-examination on Wednesday.

Adenekan was arraigned on January 29, 2018, and pleaded not guilty to a charge of child defilement.

The prosecution alleges that he committed the offence sometime in November 2016 at the school.
