The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has suspended a senior lecturer in the department of archaeology and tourism accused of impregnating a student.

Chigozie Odum allegedly threatened the student (name withheld) after forcing her to have sex with him.

He was arrested and moved to Enugu following a petition by the student’s family.

A letter dated February 15, 2021, signed by the deputy registrar of the university Achiuwa F.C. said Odum had been suspended indefinitely.

“Following the accusation of sexual harassment made against you by a female student in the Department of Archaeology and Tourism, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that you be suspended from duty immediately,” Achiuwa said in the letter.

“You are hereby so suspended from duty with immediate effect.

“You should stay away from your duty post until the final determination of the allegation against you. You should handover any University property in your custody to the Head of Department of Archaeology and Tourism.

“The Bursar is by a copy of this letter advised to place you on half salary pending final disposal action on your case.”

On allegations that the lecturer had previously impregnated three other students, spokesman for UNN Okun Omeaku said: “If they come up and say so, we will deal with it. But at the moment, we are battling with the case at hand.”
