A court in the United Kingdom on Thursday granted the Federal Government leave to appeal against the award and enforcement of the judgement permitting Process and Industrial Developments Limited (P&ID) to seize $9.6billion in Nigerian assets.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, leader of the Nigerian legal team in London, confirmed the development.

The court is currently said to be considering an application for stay of execution.

A Federal High Court recently convicted two directors of the Irish firm on allegations of fraudulent involvement in the 2010 contract between the Federal Government and P&ID.

The suspects, Muhammad Kuchazi and Adamu Usman, pleaded guilty to an 11-count charge of money laundering, abuse of office and economic sabotage filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr Kuchazi is said to be a commercial director with P&ID incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, while Mr Usman is a director of the firm in Nigeria.

The court ruled that they both represented their firms.

It also ordered the firm to forfeit all its assets to the Federal Government.
