UEFA charge Besiktas for animal pitch invasion

It isn’t unusual for fans to storm into the pitch during a football game.

However, it becomes utterly gruesome when it involves animals.

Bayern Munich and Besiktas were just playing out the string in their lopsided Champions League round-of-16 second-leg tie in Istanbul on Wednesday when the game suddenly kicked into life.

With style, grace, agility and a flair for the dramatic, a miniature figure suddenly took the game by the scruff of the neck and instantly commanded everyone in the stadium’s full attention.

Low and behold it was a cat.

Bayern was firmly in control, thanks to Thiago Alcantara’s strike before an own goal from Gokhan Gonul put them 7-0 up on aggregate.

The feline friend jumped onto an advertising hoarding before going on the pitch much to the amusement of the sold-out stadium.

Referee Michael Oliver was forced to halt play early in the second half with almost 25 minutes to go.

UEFA unpleased with the incident and a couple more has hit charged the Turkish side.

Even with nine lives, the cat couldn’s save Besiktas from crashing 8-1 on aggregate to the Germans.
