Wayne RooneyManchester United romped to a 4-0 win in Belgium to progress 7-1 on aggregate as Wayne Rooney ended a 10-game goalscoring drought on Wednesday night.

Rooney ended his goal drought with a treble and Ander Herrera was also on target as United beat Brugge to earn the two-time European champions a place back in the competition.

The Englishman silenced his critics by providing a stunning performance after a torrid week from the media and fans of the club.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa fired CSKA Moscow into the group stage with a late winner as the Russian team mounted a second-half comeback to beat Sporting Lisbon 3-1 on Wednesday and 4-3 on aggregate.

Two goals from Seydou Doumbia brought the hosts level, before Ahmed Musa struck with five minutes remaining to complete the comeback, with Joao Mario sent off for Sporting in stoppage time.

Bate Borisov went through on away goals despite losing 2-1 to Partizan Belgrade, while a late goal from Nemanja Maksimovic helped the Kazakhstani champions Astana defeat Apoel Nicosia 2-1 on aggregate.

Astana became the first side from Kazakhstan to reach the group stage of the Champions League after their 1-1 draw with APOEL.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the group stage of the Champions League by beating 10-man Lazio 3-0 on Wednesday.

Leverkusen will be the fourth German club in the group stage following their 3-1 aggregate victory.

The result means Nigeria’s Ogenyi Onazi won’t be featuring in the Champions League with Lazio.
