Actress Uche Jombo has finally presented Chioma Akpotha with her AMVCA Best Actress award in person.
Chioma, who was absent at the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held on May 10, in Lagos, won the Best Actress in a Drama award for her performance in the limited series Seven Doors, produced by Femi Adebayo.
Uche, who was in attendance, did not collect the award on her behalf, a move that drew criticism from some fans online.
Uche took to Instagram on Monday to share a video of herself flying to the United States to personally deliver the trophy to her colleague and close friend.
She captioned the video: “I have finally delivered @chiomakpotha AMVCA best actress award to her @africamagic.”
Chioma, visibly emotional in the clip, held the award and said, “Thank you, Jesus, thank you, my mama in heaven, thank you, AMVCA, thank you, my fans.”
“It’s been a long journey, a journey of highs and lows, but through it all, I still stayed true to my craft. This is the reason why today, I am able to hold this award to the glory of God and for the sake of everyone who has stayed true to their calling,” she added.
Chioma also shared that she almost turned down the role in Seven Doors but was encouraged by Femi Adebayo, who also won Best Actor in a Drama for the same film.
“I almost turned down the job, but Femi insisted. Then I read the script and knew it was special. The universe worked it out. This means a lot to me,” she wrote.
The award presentation was followed by a surprise celebration from friends and family who gathered to honour Chioma’s win.
The AMVCA 2025 held at Eko Hotel and Suites featured top Nollywood stars and personalities. Chioma beat nominees like Bimbo Ademoye, Hilda Dokubo, and Gbubemi Ejeye to clinch the award for Best Actress in a Drama.
