TUC secretary-general, state chairman confirmed killed in Abuja-Kaduna train attack

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has confirmed the death of its secretary-general Musa-Lawal Ozigi and Kwara state chairman Akin Akinsola.

The duo was among people killed by terrorists who attacked Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday night.

TUC president Quadri Olaleye made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said the unionists were on their way to Kaduna for an official assignment slated for Tuesday.

While confirming that Ozigi served in the capacity of general secretary, Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA), an affiliate of TUC for almost two decades before he joined the congress in 2012, Olaleye also pointed out that Akinsola was an employee of Dangote Flour Mill under OLAM, affirming that the duo was both seasoned trade unionists.

The union leader called on the government to rise up to the occasion to stop the killing of innocent Nigerians.

“As it stands, nowhere is safe now – we cannot travel by air, road is not safe and neither is the rail. Is Nigeria a failed state? It is unfortunate,” he said.

The congress condoled the families and friends of the victims for the loss.
