Governors of the 36 States of the Federation have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore calls for the sacking of Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and her counterpart in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma.

The governors made their position known during the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

They expressed their confidence in the ability of Adeosun and Udoma to see the country through the present economic recession.

Some members of the Senate, led by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, had called for the reshuffling of the Federal Executive Council by President Muhammad Buhari.

Specifically, Ekweremadu, who gave kudos to the individual capabilities of Adeosun and Udoma, said they were not perfect fits for the portfolios allocated to them.

The position was made known during a debate by the Senate on the state of the country’s economy on Wednesday.

But the state governors at the NEC on Thursday endorsed the work of the President’s Economic Management Team and specifically commended Adeosun and Udoma.

The NEC, chaired by the Vice President, advises the President on economic affairs of the federation and in particular on measures necessary for the coordination of the economic planning in the country.

The NEC is composed of governors of all 36 states of the federation and the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
