Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, celebrated Nigeria’s Democracy Day on Tuesday at the Suleja Prison.

The mother of one went there with her Tonto Dikeh Foundation.

The Tonto Dikeh Foundation was set up to empower and provide succour to the less privileged and vulnerable Nigerians.

“In line with our vision, I have come here to let the inmates know that we are not giving up on them, and that they have a bright future ahead outside of this place.

“Whatever happens, they are still Nigerians, and needed to know that today is our Democracy day, and being made happy.

“They still have a lot to contribute to the society irrespective of their present circumstances,” the actress told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The items handed over to the prison authority on behalf of the inmates by the foundation include bags of rice, detergents and other food items, as well as physical cash of N300,000.

Tonto Dike also paid for the release of an inmate who has remained in detention because he was unable to provide the said bail term.

Besides, on request by the inmates, she promised to provide a television set and a decoder and ceiling fans for the Christian’s hall of worship in the prison, as well as sewing machines for the inmates.

The foundation also donated dozens of sanitary pads to the female inmates for proper menstrual health management.

She also visited the Government Girls Secondary School Dutse, Abuja, declaring “it was an exhilarating moment with them and I will live to cherish the moments.”

Happy Democracy Day my people! God bless us all!! I woke up this morning with mixed feelings… The Federal Republic of Nigeria has had a chequered history… We have smiled, and we have suffered. Life has been good, and life has been frustrating for us all. In our 19th year of the Democratic mainstay in the country, we can only thank God as we ask for more like Oliver Twist. Nigerians are a great people with high prospects. Each time I read through postings and personal opinions of my beloved country men and women, I get a high sense of nostalgia, given the myriads of opinions, comments and positions we all postulate. We are, indeed, the smartest people on earth! Despite all that we have been through as a nation, I have a strong conviction that IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER!!! If there something I agree with the President on, it is his Democracy Day address to the nation. He explicitly asked that we “resolve to avoid hatred and intolerance: we can only achieve our objectives in an atmosphere of harmony and peaceful co-existence”. We should all strive to display our humaneness at all times! My fellow women, movers and shakers of the troding areas of men! Though we have come this far, let’s not rest on our oars until we achieve our innate dreams and aspirations! This country belongs to women and children!!! Reason why I always advocate for the respect of fundamental human rights, especially as it affects women and children!!! 👧 I visited the Government Girls Secondary School Dutse, Abuja as well as the Female Inmates of the Suleja Prisons in Niger State. It was an exhilarating moment with them and I will live to cherish the moments. Hampers were shared and I made new female friends! Let’s make Nigeria greater than it is today!!! God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!! Happy Democracy Day fam!!! #KINGTONTO #MAMAKING #RADICAL4JESUS #CHURCHGIRL
