Tolu Ogunlesi condemns shooting of man in Surulere

Tolu Ogunlesi the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on digital and new media has condemned the alleged shooting of a man in Surulere by policemen during the #EndSARS protest.

The yet-to-be-identified victim was allegedly hit by a stray bullet on Monday as the police shot at protesters to disperse them.

In a tweet, Mr Ogunlesi said the shootings were “tragic and condemnable” and called for the shooters to face justice.

“The police shootings in Lagos this afternoon (at least one person reported dead) are tragic and condemnable,” he wrote.

“There is no excuse for shooting anything (not to talk of live bullets) at peaceful protesters. The Police MUST find the shooters and make them face justice in full.”

The #EndSARS protests have continued despite the scrapping of the deadly Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Protesters are now asking the government to ensure that justice is served for all victims of police brutality and that the disbanded SARS operatives are not regrouped into a new unit.
