Toka McBaror to lead filmmakers to Afrik International Film Festival

Toka McBaror

Award-winning filmmaker Toka McBaror has been appointed as the program coordinator for the maiden Afrik International Film Festival (AIFF), set to kick off in early 2026.

The festival, founded by Nwakpa Isaac and Ojini Eberechi, aims to celebrate African creativity and connect filmmakers, audiences, and investors across the continent and diaspora. McBaror described the festival as an unparalleled cinematic experience for both industry professionals and film lovers.

Founder Nwakpa Isaac said AIFF would build bridges between filmmakers, audiences, investors, and distributors while creating meaningful pathways for artistic growth, education, funding and collaboration.

He added that attendees can look forward to a rich, inspiring, and immersive festival experience that combines cinema, culture, and global networking opportunities. Whether you are a filmmaker, industry executive, student, or film lover, AIFF will offer something specially crafted for you. Masterclasses will be available, and the festival will carefully manage film submissions.

The festival will hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and promises masterclasses, networking opportunities, and a curated selection of African films to spotlight both emerging and established talents.

McBaror, known for films like Bitter Rain, Almajiri, Made in Heaven, and Akpe: Return of the Beast, brings both commercial and socially conscious cinema experience to the festival, making him a strong choice to lead this continental initiative.

AIFF joins a growing ecosystem of Nigerian festivals reshaping the industry. With the right execution, it could become a hub for collaboration, mentorship, and global exposure for African filmmakers.
