Three housewives kidnapped in Zaria

The Kaduna State Police Command, on Thursday confirmed the kidnap of three housewives in Dorayi village, Zaria Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, said the women were kidnapped on Sunday.

Abubakar said that the police were on the trail of the kidnappers and had intensified surveillance in the area.

He urged family members to cooperate with the police to ensure the safe release of the women.

The police spokesman said that kidnappers were yet to make any demand for ransom contrary to rumours that they had demanded for N10 million.

A source in the village had earlier said armed men numbering about 10 took the women away on Sunday at about 12.15a,m.

The source gave the identity of the abducted women as Maimuna Abubakar, 25, Mairo Hussaini, 20 and Hauwa Ibrahim, 20.

“The following night the same suspects went back to the village and took away two cows and a motorcycle,” he said.

Another source in the family said on Thursday that the abductors had called to assure the family that the women were safe “but made no other demand”.
