Publisher of ThisDay newspaper Nduka Obaigbena has assembled the nation’s who’s who in Owa-Oyibu, Delta State for the funeral of his mother, Margaret Obaigbena.

Mama Obaigbena, who died at the age of 88 on June 16, 2022, was a former chief nursing officer of the defunct Bendel State (now Delta State) Government. She was appointed special adviser by three governors of Delta State.

A commemorative birthday and day of tributes was held in her honour on August 16.

On Friday, a lying-in-state ceremony was held for friends and family to pay their respect.

It was followed by a service of songs and wake at Obaigbena family compound in Delta State.

As of press time, the funeral service had begun in Owa-Oyibu. It is being attended by businessmen and women, politicians, industrialists among others. This will be followed by a private burial. The funeral will be rounded off with an outing service on Sunday.

On Thursday, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, paid a condolence visit to the Obi of Owa, Emmanuel Efeizomor, and the family of Obaigbena over the demise of their matriarch ahead of the commencement of funeral rites.

“My visit to Owa will cement the relationship between the North and Owa Kingdom. Indeed, it is a loss not only to you and my brother, Nduka; it is a loss for all of us, and we will continue to pray for her to rest in peace,” the monarch said.
