Teenager charged with peddling 100g of hemp

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has charged one 19-year-old Abdulwahab Jamiu with peddling 100g of Cannabis Sativa (hemp).

The one-count charge of drug trafficking marked FHC/L/45c/2021 is before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The prosecutor Jeremiah Aernan alleged that the defendant committed the offences on February 16 at Lekki, Lagos while dealing on the banned substance.

According to prosecution, hemp, like heroin and cocaine are  restricted by law.

Trafficking in hemp contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act,  2004.

Drug trafficking is punishable with up to life imprisonment.

No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
