Suspected Ebola case reported in Kaduna

ebola alertThere are fears that Kaduna State has recorded its first case of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) following the admission of an unnamed student at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Specialist Hospital, Shika, Zaria.

Punch reported Tuesday the Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Dr Thot Dogo as saying the hospital authorities alerted his ministry when they suspected that the patient, who is an undergraduate of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria started showing signs of Ebola symptoms like high fever and rashes on his body a week after he was admitted at the hospital.

Dogo said blood sample of the patient has been taken to a laboratory in Lagos for tests.

According to him, the outcome of the laboratory result would determine further actions.

He noted that the state government has provided the hospital management with protective equipment for its team of medical personnel attending to the patient.

Public Relations Officer of ABUTH, Mallam Bilyaminu Umar, on Tuesday told Vanguard that a student was on admission for suspected Ebola infection.
