Student bags 1 year imprisonment for breach of trust

A Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court, Jos, on Monday sentenced a 31-year-old student, Dalhatu Mustapha, to one-year imprisonment for breach of trust and cheating.

The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, who did not give the convict option of fine, ordered him to pay N1.5million as compensation to the nominal complainant.

Mustapha of no fixed address had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge levelled against him and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gukwat told the court that the case was reported on May 3, at the Laranto Police Station by one Deji Ayo of Akpata Street, Jos.

Gukwat told the court that the convict was entrusted with N1.5million to start a business of buying and selling of tricycles.

He told the court that the convict collected the money and absconded without telling anyone about his where about and also refused to call the complainant.

The prosecutor said the offences are contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
