Actress Stella Damasus, who played the character Nosa in the crime thriller series To Kill a Monkey, has responded to the backlash her character has received online following the release of the show.
Many viewers have taken to social media to vent their frustration over Nosa’s actions, accusing her of being ungrateful and acting sanctimonious despite benefitting from her husband Efemini’s criminal rise.
Some blamed her for triggering Efe’s downfall by failing to support him emotionally, only to later judge him harshly when everything collapsed.
In reaction to the criticism, Stella took to her Instagram page on Thursday and posted a video of herself in a closet filled with clothes, wearing a red nightwear robe.
She captioned the post:
“Since y’all have decided that NOSA is the villain …. Oh well 🤷🏽♀️😋😌.”
To Kill a Monkey, created by Kemi Adetiba, follows the tragic story of Efemini (Efe), a man plunged into poverty who joins a deadly criminal network run by the feared kingpin, Oboz.
While his initial motive was to provide for his family, Efe’s life takes a dark turn as he engages in infidelity with Amanda and eventually betrays Oboz—an act that sets off a chain of destruction.
After Efe caused Oboz’s death through betrayal, he attempted to flee the country. He told Amanda to meet him at a hangar where a private jet awaited, but he had no intention of taking her along.
Instead, he went to Nosa’s house and asked her and the children to get ready. Things didn’t go as planned as he walked into her bedroom and found another man there, confirming she was also having an affair.
Amanda, after learning from Teacher that Efe never planned to take her along, was heartbroken and retaliated by releasing damning evidence of his involvement in Oboz’s murder and other crimes. Efe was arrested before escaping.
His trial drew betrayal from all corners. Amanda testified that he had molested and tortured her.
His own daughter, Ivie, who was pregnant with Oboz’s child, cursed him in court, while Idia, Oboz’s wife, was hell-bent on revenge.
Nosa also demanded a divorce but was left with access to Efe’s offshore accounts.
The season finale delivered a dramatic twist when Efe was shot in court during the trial. The screen cut to black, leaving viewers uncertain about his fate.
To Kill a Monkey premiered on July 18 and stars William Benson as Efemini, alongside Stella Damasus, Bucci Franklin, Timini Egbuson, Sunshine Rosman, Bimbo Akintola, Shaffy Bello, and Chidi Mokeme.
The series is currently streaming on Netflix.
