I spend money on people, not Gucci – Williams Uchemba

Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba

Nollywood actor, Williams Uchemba, has once again urged wealthy individuals to stop spending lavishly on material things, but rather invest in the poor.

The former child star made the call in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Why should I spend 2million on drinks with friends in two hours when that money can set 3 people up for life and even send some kids to school?” the Journey of the Dead actor wrote along with a picture of him standing in a bank with wads of N500 notes.

He added: “Why should I spend 1.5m on a Gucci product or buy a Fendi shoe of 800k (I will wear once or twice and want another one) when I can use it to get people without hope off the street?”

Why should I spend 2million on drinks with friends in two hours when that money can set 3 people up for life and even send some kids to school…why should I spend 1.5m on a Gucci product or buy a fendi shoe of 800k(I will wear once or twice and want another one) when I can use it to get people without hope off the street…until we start to think less of ourselves and think more of people we CANT have a fulfilled life and a life of Purpose…I remember when all I wanted was a car many years ago after few months of driving that car I got bored and wanted a new one, that’s what happens when you base life on material things…Always learn to get what you NEED in life not the things you WANT because most of the things we want we don’t need …today I’m sending some kids that have been out of school back to school because of school fees and I challenge you to do same today.. HONOR GOD WITH YOUR INCOME( tithes and offerings, and kingdom investment ) HONOR THE SERVANT OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE(honor and sow seed) AND BLESS THE POOR( because you are blessed to bless others) invest in people more than Material things and leave the rest for God. Finally, if showing videos and pictures like this that inspires and challenges people to give around the world is called show off them I want to show off for the rest of my life #givechallenge

He later uploaded a picture of a family he said he gave money, gifts and scholarship to after learning that the children were sent away from school because of fees.

Wiliams, who launched #GiveChallenge in December 2017 to encourage charity, often posts pictures online showing him giving gifts to the poor.

He, however, says he does not do that to show off.

Speaking in an interview with Punch in December, Williams said: “What I am doing now is not because I want popularity, irrespective of what anyone thinks. I am doing it because God has said I should do so. As long as people are blessed and their lives are changed for the better, I am happy.

“Before I started the challenge, I had more than 300,000 followers on Instagram and the number has not changed. The Give Challenge only drew more attention to me, but it has not made me famous. I have my skits and other things I have been doing.”

He claimed in a post earlier in January that he has come under spiritual attacks for giving to the needy.
