Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore has condemned the assault on Onitsha-based preacher Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere aka Odumeje by security forces in Anambra.

Odumeje was manhandled on Thursday while he was trying to stop the demolition of a building near his church, the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry.

It was gathered that a security post was demolished. The building has since April been marked by the Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) for demolition.

According to the board, the structure blocks water flow at the Nwangele-Bida drainage.

Reacting to the treatment on Odumeje, Mr Sowore called for the arrest of the security operatives.

“This attack on Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere ‘Odumeje’ by soldiers/policemen is cruel, inhuman and a violation of his dignity, it amounts to torture and degrading treatment. The soldiers or policemen involved must be arrested and prosecuted,” he tweeted.

Although it was not immediately clear if soldiers were part of the scuffle, Sowore said the “Nigerian state must be disallowed from using soldiers and security agents to carry out civilian activities.”
