Carl Ikeme heartbroken to miss World Cup

Carl Ikeme has broken his silence about not being part of the Super Eagles team heading to the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ikeme, 31, was Nigeria’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper before being diagnosed with acute leukaemia last year.

Consequently, the Wolves star was forced into rehab, staying away from all football-related activities.

In his absence, Gernot Rohr’s team still sealed passage to the Mundial.

With barely two weeks to the start of the tournament, Ikeme has expressed his frustration at not being part but wished the team well.

Before his shock ailment, Ikeme had garnered 10 caps for Nigeria.

Rohr last week stated that the 31-year-old will be registered as his 24th player for the event.

“Until the last moment, there is a possibility of bringing in these players. Carl Ikeme will be our 24th player to the World Cup.”
