Shell Nigeria Gas has held a business and investment forum in Port Harcourt to discuss the adoption of natural gas by industries and businesses.

The event brought together manufacturers, investors, policymakers, development agencies and gas users to discuss ways of reducing operating costs and improving productivity through gas supply.

During the forum, Shell Nigeria Gas announced the onboarding of two new industrial customers in Ogun State, Intercontinental Distillers Limited II and Rumbu Industries Limited, into its gas distribution network.

The company said the addition brings the number of firms using its gas supply network to more than 150.

Representatives from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Bank of Industry, Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce attended the event.

Speaking at the forum on behalf of Shell Nigeria Gas managing director Ralph Gbobo, the company’s head of gas distribution Chukwuka Amos-Ejesi said companies using natural gas benefit from lower and more predictable energy costs.

“Our focus is to provide solutions that deliver immediate economic value while supporting long-term growth,” he said.

The company also signed gas sales and purchase agreements with Boskel Nigeria Limited and Bluefinn Global Resource Limited in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

According to Shell Nigeria Gas, the supply to Intercontinental Distillers Limited II and Rumbu Industries Limited is equivalent to about 4MW of electricity and is expected to support production activities.

Chairman of the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture Idaere Ogan, represented by board secretary Solomon Edebiri, said gas utilisation could help improve industrial activities in the region.

Shell Nigeria Gas, founded in 1998, provides gas distribution services to industrial customers in Abia, Bayelsa, Ogun and Rivers states.
