Media personality Shade Ladipo has apologised to Tiwa Savage for criticising her when her sex tape leaked in 2021.
Shade said in a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday that she unfairly judged the singer at the time.
“I was one of the people who blasted Tiwa Savage when that s3x tape came out. I’ll be honest. I blamed her. I was like, you know what? How can you be over 40? Cause we are mates and you’re still messing around with people like this,” she said.
“In hindsight, I wonder why I was blaming her so hard for something that happened to her.”
Shade explained that listening to Tiwa’s latest album, This One is Personal made her connect with her pain.
“I felt her pain. And I just want to say to you, I love you. I’m sorry!” she added.
Her apology is a big shift from her earlier reaction when she dismissed Tiwa’s claims of blackmail and called the incident a “publicity stunt.”
Tiwa Savage revealed in October 2021 that she was being blackmailed with an intimate video.
She explained during a US radio interview that her partner accidentally posted the clip on Snapchat before deleting it. But the video had already been saved and was being used for extortion.
Tiwa said she refused to pay, noting that even if she gave in, the video could still be released. “I’m that crazy, I could put it out myself… You’re not making any money off of this,” she told Power 105.1 host Angie Martinez.
She added that she would one day have to discuss the incident with her son. “It’s a very short video but it’s me,” she said.
The video later went viral but Tiwa stood her ground, insisting she would not be shamed into silence.
In 2022, she referenced the scandal in her song Loaded featuring Asake, where she boldly sang: “Who never f*ck? Hands in the air.”
The move won her sympathy from fans and colleagues who praised her resilience.
