Grace Bent sues Fani-Kayode’s estranged wife over alleged defamation

Senator Grace Bent has filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja against Precious Chikwendu, estranged wife of former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, over alleged defamation of character.

When the matter was called on Monday, Chikwendu was absent in court and there was no legal representation on her behalf.

Joseph Offor, however, announced his appearance for the prosecution. He said that he was holding brief for Victor Okoye who was away in Lagos.

Mr Offor told the court that he had little information about the case and so could not explain why Chikwendu and her legal team were absent in court.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the matter until March 10 for arraignment.

Chikwendu, an ex-beauty queen had, had via social media accused the ex-senator of using the police to intimidate her with regards to the feud between her and her estranged husband.

The former beauty queen is in a legal battle with Fani-Kayode for the custody of their four boys.

Bent, however, in a statement, described the allegation as “very weighty”, adding that she was consulting with her legal team and would not hesitate to seek appropriate legal redress.

The former federal lawmaker, who is a close friend and longtime political associate of Fani-Kayode, said the allegations carry “assassination tendencies and intendment.”
