Security guard docked for allegedly stealing gold chain, phone

A security guard John Sunday 29, was on Thursday docked in an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a gold chain and a cell phone

The police charged Sunday, who resides in Surulere, Lagos State, with theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate M.O Tanimola

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offense on February 10 at 12.25 a.m. at No 2 Johnson Oguntoye Street, Atunrase Estate, Gbagada, Lagos State.

Perezi said that the accused stole the items belonging to Mr Omotayo Oduntan from his Range Rover car parked in front of his house.

The police said the gold chain stolen was worth N10 million and a Samsung fold-four worth  N1.850 million

The prosecutor said that the offense contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section provides three years of imprisonment for offenders.

Tanimola granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties.

She ordered that the home and office addresses of the sureties must be verified.

The magistrate adjourned the case until March 10 for a hearing.
