An unnamed Nigerian woman was among four people executed on Monday by Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking.

The country’s interior ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday that it executed the woman and three others – two Pakistani men and one Yemeni man.

The latest killings bring the total number of executions in 2019 to 53.

Rights activists have raised concerns over the country’s preference for death penalty. But Saudi government says the death penalty is meant to serve as deterrent for further crime.

In 2018, Saudi Arabia executed no less than 120 persons.
