Resident doctors begin nationwide strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors on Thursday began nationwide strike despite a last-minute effort by the Federal Government to save the situation.

In a tweet on its handle @nard_nigeria, the doctors assured Nigerians that their action was not meant to hurt the public.

The tweer reads, “Nigerians must understand that we love them and the strike is not intended to hurt them but to challenge the Nigerian government @MBuhari @Fmohnigeria @LabourMinNG whose responsibilities amongst others is to care for her citizens and labour force to do the needful.”

The union’s president Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi also confirmed to Channels TV that the strike had commenced by 8am Thursday.

The doctors are demanding better packages and healthcare improvement.

President Muhammadu Buhari who is London for medical check-up announced his plan to travel despite threats of strike by the doctors.
