Senator Ned Nwoko has said that his wife, actress Regina Daniels, must undergo rehabilitation to safeguard her life and enable her to raise their children.
Senator Nwoko stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
He said his position followed a series of toxicology results which, according to him, showed concerning drug levels.
“I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children,” Nwoko said. “We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves, and I’m going to fight for them by safeguarding their mother.”
He said his wife’s calm personality had changed recently and that she had been exhibiting violent and destructive behaviour.
The lawmaker said he had taken her to Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja three times after drug overdoses.
“Many people have died of drug overdose, and if anything happens to her now, what will I tell her children tomorrow?” he said.
Nwoko said those advising the actress against rehabilitation were her real enemies and that of her children.
He presented some toxicology results, saying several drugs tested showed high toxic levels.
He challenged her family to allow an independent toxicologist to assess her condition.
“If her mother and those supporting her really want to prove me wrong, let them arrange for her to visit any toxicologist of their choice, I will pay,” he said. “Even you interviewing me now, choose any toxicologist of your choice, here or even outside Nigeria and let’s confirm.”
Nwoko accused Regina’s siblings, particularly her brother Sammy, of influencing her negatively.
“Her close relations and friends that I trusted around her are the ones exploiting her resources to supply her with drugs, leaving her addicted,” he said.
“Each time progress was made, they would undo it by smuggling in the same drugs she was fighting to give up, and now they’re shielding her away from receiving treatment.”
The senator also reacted to a claim by Rita Daniels, Regina’s mother, that his son died in the United Kingdom from a drug overdose.
He said the allegation was false and that no autopsy linked his son’s death to drugs.
The couple’s marital crisis became public after Regina Daniels accused Ned Nwoko of physical assault and announced her separation from him.
Nwoko denied the allegation and attributed her behaviour to substance abuse.
