Actors Regina Chukwu, Kunle Afod and Adekola Tijani are mourning their colleague Bamidele Tope, popularly known as Okemesi.

Fellow actor Jeff Owolewa, also known as Tony Montana, announced the death in a video shared online on Tuesday.

He said, “With a heavy heart, I’m announcing to the world that Okemesi is dead. The doctor pronounced him dead at exactly 11:50 a.m. this morning, February 24, 2026. Okemesi is gone.”

Jeff added, “So, on behalf of the entire Bamidele family, I’m announcing to the world that Oluwatope Bamidele Saint Okemesi is dead. We have taken the body to the morgue. I will communicate the rest of the arrangements to you guys. We appreciate every one of you who turned up for him.”

Reacting on social media, Regina wrote, “He cried out 😢😢😢😢😢😢”, and also added, “Jesussssssssssss”.

Kunle wrote, “Jesussss”.

Oluwaseyi Edun commented, “Haa😢😢 sad”.

Adekola wrote, “GOD have mercy please 🙏 innah liLAHI wahinna rojihunn”.

Okemesi’s health had worsened after complications linked to medication he was given during a recent clinic visit. Jeff had earlier disclosed that the actor fell into a coma and was placed on oxygen support as his condition deteriorated.

In the days before his final hospitalisation, Jeff said Okemesi had been weak, sleeping most of the weekend and eating very little. He was taken to several hospitals as efforts were made to help him before the final diagnosis.

Weeks before the health crisis, the actor had appealed for help, saying he was struggling with illness and had no stable place to stay. Supporters later helped him secure an apartment and some medical assistance.

Okemesi was known for his comedy skits and appearances in Yoruba language films and online productions.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
