Real Madrid have cruised into the UEFA Champions League final with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos welcomed back their influential talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed the first leg encounter through injury.

Madrid were without France striker, Karim Benzema, and Brazilian defensive midfielder, Casemiro.

The Premier League side was missing playmaker, David Silva, but midfielder, Yaya Toure, recovered from a muscle injury and was in the starting line-up.

City lost captain, Vincent Kompany, with an apparent muscle injury less than 10 minutes into the match, the latest injury to plague the defender this season.

The only goal of a tense, scrappy encounter came in the 20th minute, when City midfielder, Fernando lucklessly deflected a shot from Gareth Bale into his own goal.

Real wasted numerous chances to increase their lead, with timid City rarely threatening to equalise and spoil the party in the packed Estadio Bernabeu.

Madrid advanced to the final with a 1-0 aggregate win after a scoreless first-leg draw in Manchester last week.

They will be trying to win their 11th Champions League title in the all-Spanish showdown in Milan on May 28, a rematch of the 2014 final, when Los Merengues beat Atletico 4-1 after extra time.

Atletico have never won the coveted trophy. This will be their third final. In addition to the 2014 defeat, they lost in 1974 to Bayern Munich in Brussels.
