Real Madrid beat Barcelona to remain world most valuable club

Real Madrid have been named the most valuable football team in the world, according to a Forbes list released on Wednesday.

Los Blancos beat their Spanish rival, Barcelona, and host of other clubs across Europe for a fourth consecutive year.

The value of Real Madrid rose 12 percent to £2.5bn; Barcelona came second with £2.45bn on the list.

The English Premier League has a total no of six representatives on the Forbes list, with Manchester United the top ranked team with £2.29bn.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, was named the highest paid footballer in the world.

The Portuguese international has earned a total sum of £56.7m, with an annual salary of £36.7m and £20m in endorsements.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner is now the best-paid team athlete across all sports, beating rival, Lionel Messi, to claim top spot.

The Argentine came in second position after earning a total sum of £53.3m, with an annual salary of £35.3m and £18m in endorsements.
