Supporters and critics of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has reacted after he announced the resumption of his public engagements following a brief medical rest.
Mr Obi, who disclosed on Saturday, that his doctor advised him to suspend activities for a few days, said in a post on his X handle on Tuesday that he had returned to work and honoured a promise to visit a small business.
He said, “I resumed my many engagements yesterday, and I started by honouring a promise to visit an SME business owned by someone I met during the course of my activities, and I was truly delighted to listen to the owner.”
The 64-year-old had explained that he was unwell while in Enugu and was advised by his doctor to rest.
He wrote at the time, “Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding”, he wrote.
His update immediately drew comments online.
One user wrote, “I thought we agreed to go on a break?”
Another commented, “I know your spirit of seeing Nigeria reach its potential will never rest. You care so much for Nigerians that you can’t stop engaging with them, even if it were on your doctor’s recommendation.”
Others urged him to rest longer.
“Only one full day of rest?? Maybe the doctor should’ve found a way to keep you in the hospital a bit longer, at least five days, to recover properly,” one user wrote.
Another added, “Haaaaaa, Your Excellency sir, it’s not even up to 48hrs now, which kind rest be that, you need more rest ooooo, body no be fire wood.”
A critic, however, commented, “How many days rest did you have Obi? Keep deceiving yourself. There is no peace for the wicked… you will keep jumping about until after the election.”
