Rampant Tottenham end Chelsea’s unbeaten start

Tottenham emphatically ended Chelsea’s unbeaten start beating their city rivals 3-1 to take the London derby bragging rights away from Wembley on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side netted twice inside the opening 16 minutes as Dele Alli first headed in Christian Eriksen’s free-kick before Harry Kane’s long-range effort doubled Spurs’ lead.

Heung-min Son then took the game out of reach for Chelsea with his sensational solo goal in the 54th minute despite Olivier Giroud heading in a late consolation effort.

The result saw Tottenham leap-frog their city rivals in the Premier League table into third place, just three points behind second-placed Liverpool, while Chelsea’s first league defeat of the season means they drop to fourth.

The London derby clash between Spurs and Chelsea has produced some fiercely contested and certainly entertaining games in the past few years – and Saturday’s meeting between the two city rivals was no different.

Spurs started it the far better of the two sides and their fans were celebrating twice in the first 16 minutes of the match after Alli and then Kane scored in what was a blistering beginning for the hosts.

The Lily Whites started on the front foot and rather than sitting deep, they charged their way through a lethargic Chelsea side to first see Alli – who scored twice in the 3-1 win for Totttenham at Stamford Bridge last April – head in Eriksen’s free kick.

Kane was then left with the time and space to dribble his way forward and unleash a low shot that left Kepa Arrizabalaga completely frozen to the spot as it flew into the back of the net.

Chelsea should have had a penalty when Juan Foyth fouled Eden Hazard in the box, but it didn’t take anything away from Spurs’ impressive first half.

Despite a resurgence by the visitors after the break, Tottenham picked up where they left off and were rewarded with another goal, this time, by Son who brilliantly dribbled past Jorginho and then got past the advancing Luiz to net a superb solo goal in the 54th minute.

There were further chances by Kane and Alli, both of whom fired over the bar, while Kepa had to dive down to keep out a low shot by Kane but, despite a consolation effort by substitute Giroud, Spurs walked away with a famous derby win over Chelsea.
