PSG spoil Enyeama’s party in French league opener

Vincent Enyeama

Vincent EnyeamaNigeria skipper, Vincent Enyeama, started the 2015/16 French Ligue 1 season on a low after conceding against Paris Saint German in his club’s first game of the season.

The defending champions defeated Lille 1-0 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday, thanks to a Lucas Moura strike.

This isn’t the kind of start the Nigeria shot-stopper would have hoped for coming into the new season with high hopes and expectations.

Without the services of injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic and new recruit, Angel Di Maria, Laurent Blanc’s side still had the proficiency and potency to overcome their host despite going down to 10 men early in the game.

The game was also Harve Renard’s first game in charge of Lille and it was gloomy for the former Ivory Coast and Zambia coach. The Frenchman will be disappointed his charges failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage that they enjoyed for more than two-third of the game.

It can be recalled that in 2013, Enyeama kept 11 straight clean sheets totalling 1062 minutes without conceding. The Nigerian was less than two hours away from equalling and possibly smashing the French Ligue 1 goalkeeping record held by Gaetan Huard during the 1992/93 season.

Enyeama’s tough start to the season continues next Friday with a trip to Monaco.
