Prosperity is possible without tithing, Nigerians reply Oyedepo

David Oyedepo

The statement by Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel International, that prosperity is impossible without tithing has provoked reactions from Nigerians on social media.

In a message posted on his ministry’s official Twitter account on Thursday, the clergyman described tithing as an “inescapable covenant obligation.”

He added that prosperity is impossible for those who do not pay tithe, which is one tenth of earnings.

This is not the first time Oyedepo, who is often listed as the richest pastor in the world, will link prosperity to tithing.

With the 65-year-old at the forefront of the campaign against closure of churches because of coronavirus, many dismiss his latest message as a desperate cry by a man losing revenue.

According to Nigerian Twitter users, prosperity is not tied to tithing, neither will refusal to pay lead to financial curse.

Some of the reactions are captured below.
