Jamie Vardy’s sensational form for Leicester City this season has been rewarded, as the striker has signed a new contract that will keep him with the side until 2019.

The Foxes continued their unexpected title challenge on Saturday, downing Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, despite their star striker not getting his name on the score-sheet.

However, Vardy’s 18 goals in 25 league appearances is a big reason why Leicester find themselves five points up on Tottenham Hotspur with 13 games remaining, spurring the club to tie him down to an improved contract that will see him net around £80,000-a-week, a significant increase on his current £45,000-a-week deal, while there are also a range of lucrative incentives attached.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be fighting to achieve something special with this club, as part of this squad,” the striker told the club’s official website.

“I’ve never known a spirit like it – from the owners, to the manager and his staff, the players and the fans. I want to be part of it for a long time.

“Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three and a half years ago and it’s impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve.

“I’ll forever be grateful for the investment the club has made in me and I’ll spend every day working to repay it.”

Leicester’s charge for the Premier League title doesn’t get any easier, as their next game sees them travel to London to take on Arsenal on February 14.
