Pregnant woman arrested for ‘stabbing’ housemaid over bag in Lagos

Lagos police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin

A pregnant woman has allegedly stabbed her domestic worker Chinasa Anemem in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The 30-year-old woman, Eucharia Ndigwe, on Friday allegedly stabbed her housemaid after discovering that she disobeyed her directive to wash a bag at their residence on Simeon Oniyimofe Street.

It was gathered that the police arrested the woman on Saturday after a neighbour saw Ms Anemem, a native of Anambra State, writhing in pain.

The neighbour recorded a video and shared on Twitter.

Upon interrogation, the domestic worker said, “My aunt used a knife to pierce my body because I did not wash a bag.”

Reacting, spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin said the woman had been transferred to the rejuvenated gender unit of the command, adding that an investigation into the case was ongoing.

He said, “The suspect has been arrested. She’s heavily pregnant and has been released to go home. She’ll be coming to the station from home.

“The case has been transferred to the rejuvenated gender unit of the command, where, in collaboration with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, she’ll get adequate medical care while the investigation continues.”

Hundeyin added on Sunday that Anambra State commissioner for women affairs, Ify Obinabo, has visited the survivor who is currently receiving medical care at Police Hospital, Ikeja.
