Police to arraign kidnap suspect John Lyon Wednesday

John Lyon alleged Bayelsa kidnapper arrested in Abuja

Police in Bayelsa have said they would arraign kidnap suspect John Ewa popularly known on social media as John Lyon on Wednesday, November 30.

Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command Asinim Butswat announced this in a brief statement, adding that Lyon and his alleged accomplices would be arraigned in High Court 6, Yenogoa.

The statement by the police read, “The celebrity kidnapper John Ewa ‘aka’ John Lyon and others will be arraigned in High Court 6, Yenagoa, today 30 November 2022, by 0900 hours.”

John Lyon, who is from Akwagom-Eruan Community in Boki LGA of Cross River State, was arrested alongside his gang leader, Emmanuel Angase.

The 30-year-old had a reputation for flaunting his flamboyant lifestyle on social media.

According to the commissioner of police in Bayelsa, the suspect was a former cleaner with a new generation bank.

The police said he confessed to have collected $10,000 from the ransom collected in the kidnap of his former boss Danjuma Omeje.

While being paraded, John Lyon claimed that his gang members asked him to give them the address of Mr Omeje, and that few days later, they kidnapped him and collected a ransom of N45 million from him.

He said that after the operation they gave him N1.5 million to take care of the medical bills of his mother who was sick and in the hospital.
