Police react to Chidinma Ojukwu’s new position on Usifo Ataga’s death

Police in Lagos have reacted after the murder suspect Chidinma Ojukwu denied killing Super TV boss Usifo Ataga despite admitting guilt initially.

In a trending video interview conducted by Crime Fighters, the 21-year-old claimed that she found Mr Ataga’s corpse after returning to the service apartment where both of them lodged at Lekki, Lagos State.

Ms Ojukwu said she went to buy food and hard drugs and that when she returned she found Ataga in a pool of blood and the duvet was stained with blood.

“I don’t know who must have come into the apartment, and did that… I don’t know who that person is. I don’t know what happened when I went to buy the food. I did not kill him,” she said.

Ojukwu said she initially took the blame because she did not alert the police and instead withdrew N200,000 not N5 million from Ataga’s account using his ATM card.

Reacting, the state police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu said, “That is the trait of an active criminal; she was here, we recorded her. The night she was arrested, we recorded her at the state CIID, even the lady that rented the place to her, we recorded her and we have all that. If she now has an afterthought, investigation will prove that.”

PUNCH quoted a senior police officer who said that a lie detector could be deployed to test if Ojukwu’s latest claim was true or not.

Meanwhile, the suspect said no one was influencing her statement and that she had not spoken with anyone, not even her relatives, since her arrest.
