Police ‘pardon’ singer Mercy ‘Descushiel’ Isoyip after national anthem blunder

Singer Mercy Descushiel Isoyip

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said it has pardoned singer and actress Mercy Isoyip, popularly known as Descushiel, after she sang the national anthem wrongly during the conference for senior police officers in Imo State.

Descushiel, who put on the police uniform during the conference, went viral last Monday after she missed the lyrics while singing the national anthem at the event.

This led to criticisms from some Nigerians on social media as they trolled Descushiel, who was presumed to be a policewoman because of her outfit.

However, in a video via her Instagram account on Tuesday, the University of Calabar graduate apologised for her mistakes.

Reacting to her apology, the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun told an audience that she had been pardoned, noting that “to err is human”.

Egbetokun said the police would continue to support young people in their crafts.

The NPF posted a video of the IGP’s speech about Mercy on Instagram on Sunday.

“NPF Pardons Mercy Isoyip aka @Descushiel after Actress Muddled up National Anthem Lyrics,” the post read.
