Police brutalise Punch reporter at Lagos #RevolutionNow protest

A policeman on Thursday attacked a photojournalist who works with PUNCH Olukayode Jaiyeola during the #RevolutionNow protest in Lagos.

Mr Jaiyeola was attacked in Maryland around noon by a policeman named Innocent Adadu.

Another PUNCH reporter Deji Lambo who was at the scene said Mr Adadu hit Jaiyeola on the head with a baton.

He said the photojournalist fell and blood became gushing out of his head.

Mr Lambo added that he grabbed the shirt of the policeman who tried to flee after hitting the journalist.

“Adadu’s colleagues also shielded their own and whisked him into a police vehicle. They also pushed Jaiye into the same vehicle,” he said.

According to him, Jaiyeola was taken to the Police Clinic in Ikeja where his injured head was stitched.

Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu apologised to journalists for the policeman’s conduct, assuring he would face discipline.

More than 30 #RevolutionNow protesters were arrested after they began their march from Ojota area of Lagos to Maryland.
