He was allegedly arrested on Wednesday evening at his Darmanawa residence.

Spokesman of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kano, Sanusi Bature, told TheCable that Ahmad was arrested on the directive of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, through the state censorship board.

He alleged that it was part of a clampdown on PDP supporters in the state.

“Uniformed security personnel believed to be from the Criminal Investigation Department of Kano State Police Command working on the orders of Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, through the state Censorship Board have arrested the popular musician as part of the crackdown operation launched on the members of the opposition party, the PDP,” Mr Bature said.

Ahmad’s brother, Musbahu, said the arrest might be connected to a music video released by the singer in 2015.
