Police confirm arrest of Osinachi Nwachukwu’s husband

The police have arrested Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel artiste Osinachi Nwachukwu, over the death of his wife.

Osinachi, 42, was a lead singer at the Dunamis International Headquarters, Abuja. She died last Friday at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.

FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the arrest of Mr Nwachukwu.

“He is now in our custody. The younger brother of the deceased reported the matter and we have commenced investigation,” she said.

Nwachukwu, who is accused of wife battery, was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

Several celebrities have called for his arrest. Top on the list is gospel singer Frank Edwards.

Speaking on the matter during a live Instagram session on Saturday, Frank said, “One time in a studio, this man slapped her just because she wanted to record the song in Igbo against his will. She does not do anything on her own.”

Frank disclosed that he got to know about Osinachi’s challenges at home when a former managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission Joy Nunieh asked him to promote her song.

“She (Osinachi) couldn’t even tell people what she was going through. I only got to know because Aunty Joy (Nunieh) contacted me to promote her song. That was when I got a glimpse into what was happening,” he said.
