Pogba, Martial left out of France squad

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have been ruled out of France’s squad with Alexandre Lacazette and Moussa Sissoko recalled.

Martial, who played all 90 minutes and scored in Manchester United’s 3-1 derby defeat yesterday, has pulled out with an abductor injury and will now miss games with Holland and Uruguay during the international break.

It’s a case of two Premier League stars out and two in though, as the North London duo replace United’s finest.

Pogba has been missing since last week’s exertions against Juventus, giving Tottenham man Sissoko a chance back in the world champions’ squad.

Meanwhile, in-form Arsenal ace Lacazette will be tasked with replacing Martial for the Uefa Nations League clash and friendly fixture.

France travels to Holland in their fifth of six Nations League group games on Friday, before hosting Uruguay the following Tuesday.

Pogba missed yesterday’s Manchester derby, with United boss Jose Mourinho confirming an injury he had against Juventus played a part.

Prior to kick-off, the Special One said: “Paul is injured. He was injured during the game in Turin. He resisted. He felt that he could resist.

“He felt that it was such a crucial match for the team. He made that sacrifice for us, and then it was impossible for him to recover for this match.”
