Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has also been suspended by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The suspension was contained in a statement released on Friday and signed by Chairman of the faction, Soji Adagunodo, and the Secretary, Bola Ajao.

Others suspended include the chairman of the other faction of the party, Dr. Bayo Faforiji; Bunmi Jenyo; Chief Ojo Williams and Bade Falade for the same offence.

The statement reads: “The state executive committee received recommendation from various wards to local governments and senatorial districts, to suspend the following PDP members : Dr. Bayo Faforiji, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, Chief Ojo Williams and Hon Bade Falade.

“In accordance with the provisions of the PDP constitution, and inherent powers vested on the State executive committee of the party, the said individuals are hereby suspended as recommended.”

The Adagunodo-led faction further demanded that before participating in the party’s activities, Omisore must first clear his name with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Senator representing Ogun East District, Buruji Kashamu, and six other key members of the party in Ogun State have also been suspended.

A statement by State PDP Chairman and Secretary, Sikirulai Ogundele and Olabode Bankole, said the suspension was sequel to the report of a panel constituted in June to investigate allegations of financial improprieties and anti-party activities against the seven members.

Other suspended are Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, Semiu Shodipo, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan, and Bowale Solaja.

The statement said the accused persons refused to honour several invitations by the panel to respond to allegations of misapplication and outright diversion of party funds.

“Based on the preliminary report of the panel however, submitted to the executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations and hereby adopt the report and findings of the Panel which include recommendation to suspend the above mentioned,” the statement said.

“In the exercise of the powers vested on the State Executive committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party the above name are hereby suspended from the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP with immediate effect; their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary further appropriate disciplinary actions.”

Kashamu has been fighting extradition to the United States where he is accused of drug-related offences.
