PDP names Wike campaign council head for Edo polls

Nyesom Wike

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as chairman, Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, announced this on Friday.

He said the party also appointed Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, as the deputy chairman of the council.

“@OfficialPDPNig NWC appoints @GovWike as Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council Chairman. The deputy chairman is Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri,” Mr Ologbondiyan wrote on Twitter.

“With the people of Edo State on the side of Governor Obaseki and the PDP, the coast is already clear and any attempt by anybody to subvert the will of the people will surely be met very stiff resistance.”

Edo governorship election is billed for September 19.

PDP candidate for the election, Governor Godwin Obaseki, will face his major challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress among others.

The APC had already appointed Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as head of its campaign council for the polls.
