Governor Samuel Ortom said Lobi Stars’ emergence as Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions has wiped away the tears of the people of Benue State.
Lobi was crowned winners of the 2017/18 season following an agreement by the League Management Company and club owners to terminate the league.
Ortom received the victorious side on Wednesday and immediately ordered the Commissioner of Finance, David Olofu, to commence the process of clearing their outstanding salaries.
“Wherever there are resources we will bring them out to celebrate the victory,” he revealed.
“I thank God for using Lobi Stars to bring joy to us. They have done us proud.”
The governor also directed the Bureau for Youths and Sports to revive the Governor’s Cup to enable the state discover new players.
Deputy Governor Benson Abounu, who is also the chairman of the club, commended Ortom for supporting the team owned by the state government
