Nigeria international Victor Osimhen will now return to Italy after testing negative to COVID-19, Napoli announced on Sunday.
“@victorosimhen9 has tested negative for Covid-19. He will return to Italy in the coming hours,” the club tweeted.
The 23-year-old had tested positive for the virus on December 30 less than 24 hours after celebrating his birthday.
Osimhen, who had suffered a nasty face injury in November, had tried to force his way into participating at the 2021 AFCON but was ruled out when he contracted COVID-19.
The striker was scheduled for a medical check-up in his club’s base to ascertain his full recovery before testing positive for the virus.
Nigeria will be without in-form Osimhen and Odion Ighalo at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
