Ooni of Ife’s spokesman dodges question on new wives

Ooni and new wives Tobi Phillips, Ashley Adegoke

Moses Olafare, spokesman of the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has declined to comment on the monarch’s new wives.

On September 6, Oba Ogunwusi welcomed into the palace a new wife, Mariam nee Anako, with whom he attended the Olojo Festival held recently.

Soon after, he married Elizabeth nee Akinmuda.

On Sunday, the royal father took another wife, a former beauty queen Tobi Phillips.

A viral wedding invite links him to another woman, Princess Ashley Adegoke.

The invite reads, “The Royal Family of Late Prince Adebiyi Adegoke of the Adagba compound in Lafogido Ruling House cordially invites you to the traditional wedding of their daughter Her Royal Highness Omo Oba Afolasade Ashley Adegoke and His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II on Friday, the 14th of October 2022.”

The invite added that after meeting with the groom at the palace marriage rites will follow immediately at the residence of the late Prince Adebiyi Adegoke in Ile Ife, Osun State.

Asked on Monday to comment on the monarch’s wedding spree, Mr Olafare told PUNCH, “I am aware of certain activities going on, but I have not been officially cleared to comment.”

The spokesman added that at the “appropriate time” the palace would speak on the weddings if need be.
