One feared dead in Ogba as Hausa Okada riders clash with Yoruba

Police fire teargas at Lekki toll gate

One person has been feared killed around the Ogba area of Lagos leading to a clash between Hausa commercial motorcyclists locally called Okada riders and some Yoruba men on Friday morning.

The incident put commercial activities at Oluwole Market in Ogba, Ojodu Local Council Development Area to a temporary stop as traders, buyers, and residents scampered for safety.

Eyewitnesses said a young man simply identified as Abbey was allegedly stabbed to death on Thursday night by a Hausa Okada rider.

A group of Yoruba men then launched a reprisal against Hausa traders and Okada riders in the area on Friday.

Food items sold by Hausa traders were destroyed in the process.

However, police officers from the Area G Command in conjunction with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have since secured the area.

Police vans were also stationed on the roads leading to Excellence Hotel Roundabout, Ogba market and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office.
